Event badge scanner for iPhone

Scan a visitor’s badge at your booth. Krane reads what’s printed on it and the code on it, and files the lead under the show.

How it works

Scan a badge in three steps.

  1. 1

    Start the event

Create the event when you arrive. Every badge and card you scan from then on is filed under it.

  2. 2

    Scan the badge

Point the camera at the badge. Krane reads the printed details and any contact data in its QR, PDF417 or Aztec code.

  3. 3

    Follow up

Add a tag or a note while the conversation is fresh. With Krane Pro, send the lead to your CRM or export the whole show.

What Krane reads from a badge

From the badgeWhat you get
Printed nameThe visitor’s full name
Printed title and companyTheir job title and employer
Event nameWhich show you met them at
QR, PDF417 or Aztec codeAny contact data stored in the code, such as an email or phone number

Krane combines the printed details with whatever is in the code and saves one contact. If the code holds only an attendee number, you still get the name, title and company from the print.

Badges and business cards in one list

Not every visitor wears a badge you can use. Some hand you a business card, and some do both. Krane treats them the same way: start an event, scan whatever you’re given, and everything lands in one list for that show. Scan the same person twice and Krane flags the duplicate.

It keeps working when the hall has no signal

Exhibit halls are known for bad reception. Krane reads each badge on your iPhone right away, so you aren’t waiting on a connection while the visitor walks off. Once you’re back online, Krane checks each scan again.

Notes while you still remember

A badge tells you who someone is, not what they wanted. After each scan you can add tags, a note about the conversation, and a reminder to follow up. Tags you set for the event are filled in for every lead.

Your iPhone or a rented scanner

Many shows rent lead retrieval scanners or apps to exhibitors. They are usually rented per event, and some shows encrypt their badges so only the official app can decode them. Krane works at any show on the iPhone you already carry, reads business cards too, and keeps all your events in one place. If a show you attend encrypts its badges, Krane still captures the printed details.

Getting badge leads into your CRM

With Krane Pro, send one lead or a whole event to HubSpot, Salesforce or Pipedrive. Contacts that already exist are updated, not duplicated. You can also send leads to Zapier, Make or n8n through a signed webhook, or export the event as a CSV.

Pricing

Scanning badges is part of the free plan, which includes 10 scans a week. Krane Pro is $4.99 a month or $39.99 a year for unlimited scans, bulk scanning, CSV export and CRM sync. See the pricing details.

FAQ

Questions about scanning badges

Which badge codes can Krane read?

QR, PDF417 and Aztec codes. Krane takes any contact data stored in the code and combines it with what’s printed on the badge.

What if the code on the badge is encrypted?

Some shows encrypt their badge codes so that only their own lead retrieval app can decode them. Krane still reads the printed name, title, company and event.

Does it work in a hall with no Wi-Fi?

Yes. Krane reads badges and cards on your iPhone right away and checks them again when you’re back online.

Can I scan badges and business cards at the same show?

Yes. Both go into the same event, so you end up with one list of leads for the show.

How do I get the leads out after the show?

With Krane Pro, send them to HubSpot, Salesforce or Pipedrive, or export the event as a CSV for Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets.
